Galapagos International Academy is a unique program centered in the archipelago of the Galapagos Islands where students can participate in volunteer programs and/or academic programs while living with local families and enjoying the chance to experience a new culture while providing a valuable service to the people of the Galapagos Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Partnered with Westwind Community Schools, our students have the opportunity to receive an accredited (NCA-CASI a division of AdvancED) high school transcript documenting their work in Galapagos from Westwind Preparatory Academy of Phoenix, Arizona. We are also an arm of EcoGalapagosFoundation Inc., a 501 (c) 3 public charity, and maintain a working relationship with Galapagos Education L.L.C., and GalEd SA.
Our program offers the maximum hands-on experience coupled with a chance to visit several of the major tourist sites of the Galapagos Islands. Each week will offer you new experiences in the Islands. If taken as a class, you may also receive a final trip to at least 3 more islands - all INCLUDED in your tuition! Volunteer experiences can include working with local schools and school children, reforestation activities within the Galapagos NationalPark or local farmlands, invasive species removal, beach or community clean-up, and other activities within the municipal areas of San Cristobal Island. Certification of volunteer hours will be issued by the EcoGalapagos Foundation as well as an official transcript from Westwind if taken for credit.
Our program is also unique in that we use local homes, hotels, restaurants, business services, boats, and land travel accommodations within the islands so that the money is largely committed to the people of Galapagos instead of foreign entities. This furthers our committment to preserve the ecology of the Islands by helping employ people in the tourist industry instead of some of the other practices that are more harmful to the Galapagos ecology.
Please check out the rest of our web site for further information on our school and the Galapagos Islands themselves. Thanks for your visit!
